What do the numbers on your car tyres mean?


If you don’t live in Auckland and want to take advantage of our great tyre specials, you can buy tyres through our online store. However, before you do, you must ensure you buy the right size tyre for your vehicle, and if you are after a quote, we also need this. Not sure what yours is?

  • 205 (width): the width of a tyre in millimetres
  • 55 (profile): refers to the profile or aspect ratio, i.e. tread width
  • R (construction): tyre has radial ply construction
  • 17 (rim): diametre of the rim in inches
  • 91 (load index): maximum load capacity of the tyre
  • V (speed symbol): indicates the tyre's safe speed for operation
